Günther Porath enters the Hall of fame next to Lindbergh and Lilienthal !

On Monday, the 21 of May 2007, Landrat Dr. Max Gimple (the Bavarian Parliament) personally honored Gunther Porath, the current German Hanggliding Cross Country Champion, with two  Diamond Badges of the FAI. Gunther Porath thus is the first and the only German hangglider and paraglider pilot who was presented with two of these outstanding proficiency badges. Gunther, the father of two children, received the Diamond badge for his flight of a closed FAI-triangle on the third of September 2006, covering a total distance of 168,6 km up to the maximum altitude of 4.200 m, which was 3.120 m above the takeoff elevation. During the last season this pilot has set remarkable milestones flying AEROS wings: he won the German XC cup with an everhigh score, flying a FAI-triangle (equal legged triangle) up to 225 km. Gunther is on the fourteenth place in the International ranking. He has also achieved three new German records. During the celebration the German representative of AEROS, Tomas Pellicci from Stephanskirchen, presented Gunther Porath with a document honoring his extraodinary performance.
In the future Gunther hopes to eliminate a great obstacle for his ambitions by switching from his present „old“ hangglider to a new „racer“.
The pilot has already started the season 2007. After four weeks of training flights in Spain, the motherland of his wife, he is ready for the hot period of the early summer. Then his native Alpes again will be the competition field for the desired trophy. Everyone can participate in this nerve-racking competition for the title of the Champion; the scoring can be publicly viewed on the Internet at http://www.xc.dhv.de.
